Earth Self-Aware

Why Blue Mirror?

My thinking on this site is, at least for a large part, about awareness. Awareness of identity. The mirror is all about that, recognizing self (the mirror test is a classic example). I've been giving the relationship of man and the environment a lot of thought, and I believe the self is much more than just what we'd normally call our individual self. The blue planet Earth, through the level of consciousness man has achieved, can see itself.

Why this website?

At this point in my life I feel the time is now to continue my philosophical journey and share my ideas with whomever might be interested. The subject is massive, and I'm at a loss how I'd even begin writing something like a book about it. I'm only one, and I cannot do this just by myself. But I have to start somewhere. I decided I'll write shorter articles on more limited subjects that relate to the blue mirror, and hopefully let the material created suggest ways to coherently organize it. I'm also hoping others will consider my ideas and help improve or reject them. As every being has its own perspective (and at least every human a unique one), embarking on this journey together surely is the only way to make real progress.

About Rutger

We can make the world a better place and I'm doing what I can to contribute. I've always been fascinated by the natural environment, loving the forest and craving to be a scuba diver since I was 6 years old (I had to wait until my 15th birthday at the time). On the other hand, I was amazed by space flight and science fiction and grew up alongside the personal computer. I turned my wish to help fight the decline of the natural world into master degrees in Biology and Applied Ethics, but found I'm not an activist. Pursuing a job I turned to IT, and after some time found a job in which I could create software to work on sustainability. I'm now taking my software career into freelancing and this feels like the time to also pick up on my philosophy again.
